WHAT IS RIVER QUEST?
river quest logoRiver Quest is a series of treasure hunts stretching throughout West Volusia County, Florida also known as the River of Lakes Heritage Corridor. The Corridor spans 15 communities from Seville in Northwest Volusia to Osteen in the Southwest. Quests utilize rhyming and riddle-like clues along with hand-drawn maps, icons and GPS coordinates to reveal special places and stories. They might meander through villages, historic sites, cemeteries, forests, wetlands and more. Quests are usually on-foot adventures that gently share and teach the cultural, historical and natural history of the region. They are a perfect way to spend special time with family or friends.

THE QUESTING TRADITION
River Quest was inspired by a Vermont-based program called Valley Quest, which in turn was born out of a 150-year-old tradition in Southwest England called “Letterboxing." This was the British practice of following maps and rhyming riddles through the moors in search of boxes that held clues about their natural or cultural location.
